On this two days Winter Wonderland Tour you get to see and experience the highlights of the North.
You will be picked up by your private driver/guide at your hotel, guesthouse or the Akureyri airport.
You start by checking into your hotel or guesthouse.
You head of at your own pace and take your time taking in the power and beauty of the Lake and its surroundings.
The Skútustaðir Pseudocraters are a great starting point and from there we admire the beautiful landscape surrounding Lake Myvatn.
Dimmuborgir Lava Park where you’ll see very unusual lava formations and pillars, caves and fissures. Some believe that these rock formations are Trolls that turned to stone. In winter you either use crampons or snowshoes for your hike in there.
You go to lunch at a local restaurant or café.
You drive with your guide up to the explosion crater (tephra cone mountain) Hverfjall and drive into Lúdentaborgir, the ground Zero for Lake Myvatn lava, and learn about the amazing powers that made this beautiful landscape around the lake and drive on top of the Lúdent Crater, a 9000 year old explosion crater.
You will visit famous locations where parts of the series “Game of Thrones” was filmed like Grjótagjá cave and Höfði cape. After all you are North of the Wall!
You will visit the geothermal area of Hverir and from there you go to Krafla, the geothermal power station and the volcanoes surrounding it.
You take a relaxing dip in the famous Mývatn Nature baths before you go and have dinner at the Cowshed restaurant, a local restaurant which specializes in courses from farm to table in a relaxing atmosphere.
After dinner you go Northern Lights Hunting, if conditions allow.

On this tour you will travel at your own pace, stop whenever you want and enjoy yourselves for a day.
You start with the activity of the day, a Snowmobile tour or you go on a dog sled tour.
You have lunch before you head off to Iceland´s most catastrophic area, Ódáðahraun.
You go to Dettifoss, Europe´s most powerful waterfall and take in its pure power and beautiful surroundings of canyons and basalt rock formations.
Your guide will also stop at Selfoss and Hafragilsfoss, two nearby waterfalls which are amazing in their own way.
And last but not least, Goðafoss, the waterfall of the gods.

What is not included: Accommodation, meals. We can offer dog sled tours but due to popularity they need to be booked well in advance. Snowmobile tour can be included with a discount if booked with us.
What to bring: Sturdy shoes for walking/hiking and warm socks, clothing and outerwear suitable for cold or chilly weather. Sunglasses. Snacks. Hats and mittens.

Good to know: You will stop at a local restaurant or a café for refreshments if a lunch pack is not taken as extra. Your safety is our first priority so itinerary might be altered due to bad weather or road conditions, the duration of the tour might extend or we might have to cancel the tour if weather or other conditions are not in our favor. In December when the days are short, this itinerary is good for a 4 night trip to Lake Myvatn.
